censusThe Census Bureau has scheduled a preliminary event on the extensive agency search process to handle its lucrative advertising and PR contracts for the upcoming 2020 count.

The bureau will host interested firms Dec. 18 for a conference and "vendor expo" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its headquarts in Suitland, Md. Census officials will discuss the 2020 operation plan, the RFP process and address firms' questions.

The event is not mandatory but firms are "highly encouraged" to attend. Pre-registration is required.

The Census Bureau expects to issue the RFP in mid-January with firms slated to be chosen by mid-August. A draft RFP has been scheduled to be released Dec. 11 but is not yet available.
