The Halo Group has studied the eating habits of what some consider the healthiest generation to date.

The Halo Group study of Millennial eating habits

Does it have GMOs?  Are the chickens free range?  Is there a gluten-free option?  These are familiar questions from millennials, labeled the healthiest generation to date.

The Halo Group conducted a study to dig deeper into the mindset of millennial foodies to shed some light on how brands can reach out to this influential demographic.

Eight in 10 millennials believe that even though it’s important to eat healthy, indulging every so often is not a bad thing.

Eating is not just about satisfying hunger, there must be a sense of adventure.  Three out of 4 millennials agree with this statement and seek out new food trends and ways to mix and match flavors.  Millennials prefer to eat in groups and share their experiences through social media such as Instagram and Facebook.

To educate themselves on functional ingredients and how to use them, millennials turn to the ‘Net.  According to Think with Google, there have been 3.9 million video views on the benefits of turmeric, the main spice in curry that some believe is the most effective nutritional supplement in existence.

The sources most trusted for seeking out healthy eating options are: nutritionist, 65 percent; dieticians, 58 percent; family & friends, 57 percent; personal trainers, 54 percent; and packaging claims, 26 percent.

Healthy eating is not the be-all and end-all though for millennials.  To stay on top of a healthy lifestyle, 24 percent of millennials have health apps (food and fitness) on their smartphones.

Millennials are seeking an emotional benefit from their food, whether it’s a healthy option or an indulgent snack.
