Michele Perez Exner, a former Marine Corps PA exec and press secretary for Sen Tim Scott, will join CBS News July 5 as communications director for the DC bureau and “Face the Nation.”
She will report to Christa Robinson, senior VP-communications at CBS News.
As top press aide for the South Carolina Republican, Exner handled communications strategy, furthered Scott's policies on tax cuts and arranged press appearances.
The Naval Academy graduate served as marketing and advertising director for the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in Camp Lejeune (NC) from 2014-2016.
Earlier, she was stationed in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, responsible for a ten-person PA team. Exner wrote the PA guidance packages used for media training officers.
Robinson said Exner’s political communications background and experience in handling PR for the Marines will be of enormous value to the DC bureau.
