Capital Gazette

A shooting today in the newsroom of Maryland’s Capital Gazette left five people dead and others wounded.

A suspect is in custody.

Police say the shooting was a "targeted attack" on the Capital Gazette.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said via Twitter that he was “absolutely devastated to learn of this tragedy in Annapolis.”

The Capital Gazette paper is owned by tronc inc.’s Baltimore Sun.

The shooting is the deadliest attack on a media company since a dozen people were killed during the 2015 assault by Islamic extremists on French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
