Tunheim has named John Blackshaw president and chief operating officer, a new role at the Minneapolis-based agency.

Blackshaw, who officially joined the agency yesterday, arrives from healthcare data analytics company Nemadji Research Corporation, where he was stationed for more than a dozen years, joining as general counsel before ultimately being named CEO in 2013.

Blackshaw, who also owned and operated his own consulting firm, was previously stationed at Tunheim from 1992 to 2000, where he led the company’s public affairs practice.

In addition to serving as president and COO, Blackshaw will also lead Tunheim’s consulting operations. Agency founder Kathy Tunheim remains in her role of principal and CEO.

Tunheim, which was founded in 1990, accounted for more than $5.7 million in net fees last year, according to O’Dwyer’s rankings of PR firms. Current clients include Sleep Number, Dominium, Great River Energy and the Minnesota Hospital Association.
