BLumhouse

Netflix vp publicity for original series Karen Barragan is heading to Blumhouse Productions, where she will be head of marketing and communications.

Barragan has been with Netflix since 2012. The first publicity executive on the streaming service’s communications team, she helped direct the company through its push toward original content. She was in charge of publicity for such shows as “House of Cards,” “Orange is the New Black,” “Ozark” and “Stranger Things.”

Before joining Netflix, Barragan was vice president, media & talent relations at Sony Pictures Television. She previously served as director at mPRm Public Relations and account coordinator at BWR Public Relations.

At Blumhouse, Barragan will oversee both the film and television sides of the company’s business. Blumhouse is the production company behind such projects as “Get Out,” the recent remake of “Halloween” and HBO’s “Sharp Objects.”

She replaces Teri Everett, who had previously worked at Universal Pictures and News Corp.

A successor to Barragan at Netflix is still to be announced.
