Joele Frank is handling US media for Avianca, Latin America's third-biggest airline, which filed for Chapter 11 on May 10 due to the "unforeseeable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic."
The fleet of the Columbia flagship carrier has been grounded since mid-March, a move that wiped out 80 percent of its revenues.
"Avianca is facing the most challenging crisis in our 100-year history as we navigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Anko van der Werff, CECO.
He said the grounding and a projected gradual recovery from the COVID-19 crisis made the Chapter 11 filing in US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York a "necessary step to address our financial challenges."
Avianca flies more than 30M people a year to 76 destinations in 27 countries. It has more than 21K workers.
