Federal prosecutors announced the indictment of former Trump campaign manager and PR strategist Steve Bannon on fraud charges connected to fundraising for the president's border wall.
The “We Build the Wall” online donor campaign raised money from the public to erect a barrier on the US/Mexico border.
Bannon is among four people that allegedly “received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donor funds from We Build the Wall, which they each used in a manner inconsistent with the organization’s public representations.”
They each face two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Each charge carries up to 20 years in prison.
Bannon is the second Trump campaign manager to face charges. Paul Manafort was convicted of fraud in 2018.
