Omnicom has named Daryl Simm to the newly created president/COO post, positioning the 60-year-old as successor to longtime chief John Wren. The 69-year-old Wren took over for Bruce Crawford in 1997.

Simm has been running Omnicom’s media group for more than two decades.

Wren credited Simm for creating the firm’s Omni open operating system that is used by “hundreds of clients as well as being customized by practice areas like commerce, health and public relations.”

Omnicom also announced that Florian Adamski, CEO of OMD Worldwide, will succeed Simm at the media group post.

Marina Maher Communications, Ketchum, Porter Novelli and FleishmanHillard are part of Omnicom.
