Cornerstone Government Affairs adds Jonathan Miller to its federal government relations team. Miller most recently served as chief of staff for the Defense Health Agency Research and Development Directorate. He was previously the civilian deputy, Office of the Principal Assistant for Research and Technology at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command. He has over 12 years of direct government experience leading all aspects of planning, programming, budgeting and execution processes. “In addition to his stellar reputation, he is a recognized expert in the defense health space and will add immediate value to our clients and the firm,” said Cornerstone president and managing director Geoff Gonella.

SmartBug Media promotes Jen Spencer to chief executive officer, effective Feb. 1. Smart Bug founder and current CEO Ryan Malone will become chairman of the board. Spencer joined the company in 2017 as vice president of sales and marketing, and has subsequently served as chief revenue officer and president. Before coming to SmartBug, she built several demand generation and sales enablement programs and has experience working within technology startups, publicly traded companies, mid-market organizations, and the not-for-profit space. “Jen and I have worked together for years, and as I transition my duties in day-to-day operations, I could not think of a better person to continue our mission,” said Malone.

The Honest Company, a bath, beauty and home goods firm founded by Jessica Alba which went public last May, names Steve Austenfeld vice president, investor relations. Austenfeld was previously head of investor relations for Gap Inc. Before that, he was vice president of investor relations for The Clorox Company. At The Honest Company, Austenfeld will lead investor communication activities and shape messaging, including overseeing relationship management of investor relations partners and key stakeholders. “Steve brings more than 30 years of experience overseeing global investor relations engagement, financial planning and growing best-in-class IR functions, including leading investor relations for two of the world’s most recognizable brands,” said The Honest Company CEO Nick Vlahos.
