| Heidi Heitkamp |
Former North Dakota Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp has resigned as co-chair of Actum LLC, which was launched Jan. 27 by former executives of Mercury Public Affairs.
She was to co-lead Actum’s Washington office with fellow co-chair Mick Mulvaney, former South Carolina Congressman and acting chief of staff in Donald Trump’s White House.
Heitkamp said since Actum announced her recruitment she’s had several conversations with organizations and people who had expreseed concerns about potential conflicts of interests with Actum and her advocacy and non-profit work.
Though Heitkamp did not see any potential conflict, she believes that integrity demands that she avoid even the appearance of a conflict.

How risks and opportunities have evolved for communicators in the second Trump administration.
Too many executives view public affairs as a technical task. They think that if their policy is strong, their facts are correct, and their lawyers are ready, the outcome will naturally follow. That’s a dangerous misconception.
A majority of Americans (52 percent) say president Trump launched the invasion of Iran in part to distract voters from the Jeffrey Epstein sex scandal. Forty percent disagree, according to Drop Site/Zeteo/Data for Progress survey conducted March 6-8.
