He will replace Suzanne McCarron, who is retiring after a 24-year run.
Furman joins the energy giant from BestBuy, where he had been chief communications and public affairs officer since 2012.
He was in charge of internal/external PR, government affairs, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and charitable giving.
Prior to the retailer, Furman was VP-corporate affairs at Mars Chocolate, head of corporate communications at Google and senior VP-corporate communications at CNN.
He also served as director of communications for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management.
