The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America will present its inaugural Daniel J. Edelman Award to Al Roker at the 35th annual Big Apple Awards on September 22 at ASPIRE at One World Observatory. The award recognizes a public relations or media industry leader whose work embodies Edelman’s commitment to improve society. Roker, CEO of Al Roker Entertainment, has appeared on television for over 40 years and has received 14 Emmy Awards. He is currently the weatherman on NBC’s TODAY, co-host of the 3rd Hour of TODAY and featured on ‘”Off The Rails” on the TODAY Show Radio channel on SiriusXM radio. “Al Roker is the ideal recipient of this inaugural award because he embodies the values and principles that Dan Edelman founded our firm on,” said Edelman global CEO Richard Edelman. This year’s Big Apple Awards program will focus on themes of courage, community, and change, paying homage to the evolving global business and cultural landscape that has catalyzed PR professionals to positively impact society. PRSA-NY recently announced the shortlist of award winners for the awards, featuring agencies and organizations across the Greater New York City Area and nationwide.

IPR slates Sept. 21 webinar will take a look at some of the basic secrets of CEO impact and success. “CEO Excellence: Six Mindsets That Distinguish the Best Leaders from the Rest,” will go over research from McKinsey & Company that identifies CEOs who made a significantly measurable impact during their tenures, across over 20 years’ worth of data on 7,800 CEOs from 3,500 public companies. The discussion will be led by Sean Brown, director, global communications and external Relations in McKinsey’s strategy and corporate finance practice McKinsey associate partner Meagan Hill. The talk will run from 4 to 5 p.m. on Zoom.

Davis+Gilbert partner Allison Fitzpatrick is leading a September 29 virtual event that will offer attendees tips about how to get the most from their influencer marketing efforts. “High Risks, High Rewards: Navigating the Changing Influence Marketing Landscape,” which is sponsored by PRSA-NY, will go over topics that are set to include: the FTC’s proposed Endorsement Guides, best practices regarding influences agreements and influencer disclosures, and issue to be award of when engaging in virtual reality. The event is free for PRSA members, $20 for non members.
