Andrea Hagelgans, who served as managing director of US social issues & engagement at Edelman, has joined Avoq’s New York office as senior VP in its strategic communications group.
She will advise clients on PR strategy, issues advocacy and crisis communications.
At Edelman, Hagelgans also was managing director for New York corporate and public affairs.
Earlier, she was communications director for former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and then his senior advisor for strategic planning.
She worked on de Blasio’s signature issues such as universal Pre-K, affordable housing, and the creation of NYC paid parental leave policies.
Mayor Eric Adams appointed Hagelgans to the NYC Commission on Gender Equity.
“Andrea’s communications expertise and deep understanding of the reputational imperatives facing the C-Suite and companies today adds exceptional talent to our team and enhances our strategic advantage in advising clients nationally and in New York,” said Avoq CEO Nicole Cornish.
Avoq ranks No. 10 on O'Dwyer's roster of independent PR firms with 2023 fees of $89.3M.
