BGR Group has hired Defense Department pro Hai Peng to advise clients on geopolitical/security issues and the US-China relationship.
Prior to BGR, Hai was deputy chief—China, Taiwan, Mongolia division at the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In that role, he served as senior military advisor to the Chairman, Defense Secretary and President by providing reports, briefings, advice and analysis on China, Taiwan, and the Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier, he worked as senior geopolitical and military affairs specialist in the Air Force’s strategic competition branch, and staffer in the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Hai has more than 18 years of military service, which includes seven years of active duty in the Army, and a combat tour in Iraq.
Born in China and fluent in Mandarin, Hai immigrated at the age of 17 to Brooklyn.
BGR president Erskine Wells said “not only can Hai speak to the U.S.’s national security policy towards China, but he brings a unique understanding and perspective of the CCP reaction to these policy decisions.”
At BGR, Hai is senior director in the firm’s international & trade, and defense & critical technologies practices.
