The U.S. Department of Commerce, patent and trade office names Troy Blackwell as deputy chief communications officer.
Most recently, Blackwell was chief spokesperson and director of the office of press relations at the U.S. Peace Corps, leading media relations across 64 countries and launching the organization’s global marketing campaign ‘Bold Invitation’ which generated more than 1 billion ad impressions, 105+ million video views, and more than $10 million in PSA-donated media.
He was previously a senior advisor at the Selective Service System and Department of Homeland Security, customs and border patrol. He has also served as senior director at PRSA, treasurer on the executive board of directors for the Diversity Action Alliance and a member of Google’s Changemakers Advisory Council.
In his new role, Blackwell will lead the development and implementation of strategic communications for the USPTO in coordination with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the White House. He will also advise the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property. The USPTO is one of the five largest intellectual property offices in the world, with more than 13,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $4 billion.
