Alex Stanton, a veteran corporate, financial and marketing PR executive, died on July 9. He was 70.
Known as a hands-on manager who worked closely with clients, he launched New York-based Stanton in 2009. The firm, which focuses primarily on B2B clients, took the No. 55 slot in O’Dwyer’s rankings with 2023 fees of $11.1M.
"In addition to being one of the hardest working and smartest people we have known, Alex Stanton was a tremendous leader, mentor, colleague and friend,” said a joint statement from Stanton managing directors Tom Faust and Charlyn Lusk. "The outreach we have received from so many is a testament to the impact he had on employees, clients, media and the public relations industry over the past 50 years. No one will ever be able to fill Alex’s shoes, but we will do everything possible to honor his legacy and his name."
Stanton also helped build and scale Dorf & Stanton, which was sold to Shandwick, and Stanton Crenshaw Communications.
A memorial service for Stanton has not yet been set.
Bill Murray, who had been with MikeWorldWide for 35 years (most recently as EVP/national director, public affairs), has passed away at 67 after a battle with cancer.
Peter Costiglio, a top corporate communications executive for more than 40 years, died March 17 after a long-battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 76.
Howard Geltzer, who launched New York-based Geltzer & Co., which he ran with his wife, Sheila, died Jan. 7 from a cancer-related illness. He was 88.
Joe Boyd, co-founder and CEO of MCS Healthcare Public Relations, died on December 24 at age 71.
Barbara Hunter, public relations pioneer and founder of New York-based agency HUNTER, passed away on December 18 at age 97.
