Anne Buckley |
Anne Buckley will join the University of Maryland as VP-marketing and communications on Sept. 4.
She will bolster the College Park school’s reputation as a top national university in academics, research, art and athletics, with a strong commitment to diversity.
Buckley will oversee an office with 50 staffers.
She will join UMD from the University of California San Diego, where she was its first chief communications and marketing officer. In that role, Buckley launched UCSD’s initial strategic communications push to drive awareness of its brand.
Previously, Buckley served as the inaugural chief communications officer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was in charge of 80 staffers, handling strategic PR, issues management and crisis communications.
Buckley also was a senior director in the PA unit of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Darrell Pines, UMD president, said Buckley’s decades of higher education experience will build upon the creative foundation and the strong brand that the school’s marketing and communications department helped to establish.
“Under Anne’s leadership, I am excited to expand the university’s reputation for cultivating fearless leaders dedicated to the public good,” said Pines.
