Steve Edwards, former chief content officer and interim CEO of Chicago Public Media, has been named executive VP for external affairs & civic engagement at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, effective August 13.

He will handle PA and community development for the region that includes Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Austan Goolsbee, CEO of the Chicago Fed, cited Edwards’ more than 25 years of leadership experience in media, communications and strategy at mission-driven organization. “It’s fundamentally important for central banks to explain what we do, why we do it, and to partner with others to serve the public,” said Goolsbee. He added that the bank was lucky to have Edwards join it.

Most recently, Edwards was a managing director at Koya Partners executive search firm.

Earlier in his career, he was host of daily radio programs, “The Afternoon Shift,” and “Eight Forty-Eight” on WBEZ (Chicago’s NPR station), and executive director of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics.
