Liz Allen, undersecretary for public diplomacy and PA at the State Dept., has stepped down from that post to join the Kamala Harris presidential campaign.
She will become chief of staff for Harris’s running mate.
Secretary State Anthony Blinken called Allen a tireless advocate for the almost 5,000-person strong global public diplomacy team.
He credited Allen for equipping and empowering the public diplomacy team with the technology and training required to navigate an increasingly complex media environment.
“Liz has been an indispensable advisor and sounding board to me and so many others across the Department,” posted Blinken on the State Dept’s website. “I am deeply grateful for her leadership, and on behalf of her colleagues, I thank her for her service.”
Allen, who was a managing director at FGS Global, was communications director for Harris during the Biden for President campaign.
She served as deputy communications director for Vice President Biden, and director of the Get Out The Vote operation in the Obama for America Presidential Campaign.
