Stephen Black, chief financial officer of WPP’s strategic communications and content agency Group SJR, is taking over the CFO post at Invariant.
At WPP, Black negotiated the acquisitions of both Group SJR and media company Kinetic Worldwide, where he also served as CFO. Earlier in his career, he was founding CFO at advertising company Titan and director of finance and operations at WebMD. He has also held business management and financial reporting posts at publishing companies Condé Nast, Lang and GMI.
In his new post, Black is tasked with supporting and guiding Invariant’s strategic direction.
“Steve is a skilled business executive with a wealth of experience guiding companies through periods of momentous transformation,” said Invariant founder and CEO Heather Podesta. “Adding Steve to our leadership team now will help sustain our growth and enhance our strategy as we continue to deliver excellence for our clients.”
Invariant also recently hired former Washington Post chief communications officer Kris Coratti Kelly; Jenness Simler, who led advocacy for the Boeing Global Services business and spearheaded defense policy issues for the enterprise; and Erin Gentry, who was most recently president of North America and chief client officer at Group SJR.
