Stanton Communications is selected to provide media relations support for the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation and its signature fundraising dinner featuring the presidential nominees of the two major political parties, both of whom have been invited to the October 17 event, which will be hosted by Archbishop of New York Timothy Cardinal Dolan. The foundation, which has been in existence since 1946, has raised tens of millions of dollars for New York’s most vulnerable women and children. Speakers at its annual dinner have included Winston Churchill, John McCain, Stephen Colbert and Peggy Noonan, as well as Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. Last year’s speaker was Henry Kissinger in his final public appearance. “Media interest in the dinner always is intense given the stature of the speakers,” said Stanton Communications CEO Peter Stanton. “Its appeal is increased by the fact that the Smith Dinner is usually conducted in a genial tone after a season of intense political discourse.”
