Dina Cappiello, who was national environmental beat reporter for the Associated Press, has joined Edelman's Washington office.

She takes a VP position in the independent PR firm's global energy practice, which has more than 250 staffers.

Cappiello covered green news for the wire service for the past eight years, work that earned the outstanding investigative reporting honor from the Society of Environmental Journalists in 2005.

Amy Hemingway, global energy chair, expects Cappiello's understanding of the energy business and broader environmental issues will help create compelling stories for Edelman's clients.

Prior to the AP, Cappiello covered energy for Environment & Energy Publishing, Congressional Quarterly, Houston Chronicle, and Times Union in Albany.

Edelman chalked up $17M in environmental/PA income in 2014, trailing only APCO Worldwide's $29M income in O'Dwyer's rankings of PR firms.
