Will Dempster, who was a key aide to 2014 defeated Democratic Senator Mary Landreau, has joined McBee Strategic Consulting as VP in its communications practice.

Serving the Louisiana politico, he was a key advocate for the energy sector, advocating on behalf of the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline scheme to transport heavy Canadian tar sands oil to American refineries on the Gulf Coast.

Dempster also promoted key issues such as liquefied natural gas exports and re-authorization of the Export-Import Bank.

Prior to Capitol Hill service, he worked for Qorvis Communications in its geopolitical solutions unit.

Eric Bovim, managing director at McBee's communications practice, said Dempster has the "rare blend of agency, campaign and Hill experience" needed for innovative campaigns to resonate inside the Beltway and beyond.

Wiley Rein acquired McBee last year.
