CNN has recruited Steve Warren, former top public affairs advisor to Defense Secretary James Mattis, as senior military analyst.

Warren, who is respected by reporters for his humor and straight-shooter style, was pushed out of the Pentagon last week.
Trump officials, according to published reports, had encouraged Warren to retire from the Army and apply for the Pentagon’s top spokesperson job, which traditionally goes to a civilian.
Dana White, assistant secretary for PA and ex-Fox News publicist, played a key role in Warren’s departure from the military.
She said the White House ultimately determined that Warren wasn’t eligible for the spokesperson post.
