The National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America presented 52 Thoth Awards and Awards of Excellence at the 49th annual Thoth Awards Gala last night. The event, honoring programs, products and campaigns in the nation’s capital region, was held at the National Press Club in Washington. D.C.

Hager Sharp and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention took top Thoth honors for their HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention campaign. The campaign, which was aimed at increasing the quality of clinicians’ human papillomavirus vaccination recommendations for children 11–12, utilized research, message and materials development, partnerships, paid media and evaluation to generate exposure across targeted channels.
John Seng, founder of Spectrum Science Communications, and Carmen Marsans, senior VP-client services at Comunicad, were inducted into the NCC Hall of Fame.
Other winners included Weber Shandwick in the Global Communications and Events & Observances categories for their work on World Thrombosis Day, Strauss Media Strategies in the Media Relations: Television Campaign category for an outreach effort to raise awareness and increase coverage of surrogates attending and participating in the 2016 Democratic National Convention and Crosby Marketing Communications for “Victories for Veterans,” a series of public service announcements done in collaboration with DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
