Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Podesta Group and its chief Tony Podesta as part of his probe of a potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia into meddling into the presidential election.
The probe, according to a NBC News report, stems from Mueller’s inquiry into Paul Manafort, Trump’s ex-campaign manager, and his work on behalf of the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine.
Podesta Group did work for ECMU and the purported effort to boost Ukraine’s image in the west.
Both Podesta Group and Manafort filed a Justice Dept. registration for ECMU only after payments were reported by the media.
A Podesta Group spokesperson told NBC the firm is “cooperating fully with the Special Counsel’s office and has taken every possible step to provide documentation that confirms timely compliance.
“In all of our client engagements, the Podesta Group conducts due diligence and consults with appropriate legal experts to ensure compliance with disclosure regulations at all times—and we did so in this case.”
