KETCHUM EXEC: TAKE A JOB, ANY JOB |
|
By Greg Hazley
Linda Eatherton, a partner at Ketchum and director of its global food and nutrition practice, advises graduates looking for work in a clip from her alma mater -- the Missouri School of Journalism -- to "take a job, any job" in the difficult climate.
"Don't be too proud," she said. "Even if it's working in the local McDonald's, take the job. You are going to be a much more attractive candidate to that wonderful employer that you're looking for if you've been working than if you've been sitting home wishing you were working."

Great messaging! (3/03):
There's a difference between getting a job to have money to survive and getting a job just to have a job. And apparently to Ketchum, that makes no difference. Yes, as a PR graduate, take the job that is offered, don't turn your nose up at anything.
Yes, while searching for a job is a fulltime job, you still need to earn money and that WILL be important (being employed makes you a more valuable asset). But a job for a job's sake is NOT going to help in PR. And this Ketchum exec knows that.
Working at McDonald's doesn't mean anything because you won't be putting that on your resume. |
