Robin Pence, who led corporate communications for Gannett for the past two-plus years, has checked in to Choice Hotels International as VP of PR.

Pence joined Gannett in 2009 after a two-year span in which the newspaper giant slashed more than 6,000 staffers. She put in place its first corporate brand strategy and national ad push while also heading the Gannett Foundation. Previously, she led PR for power company AES Corp. after stints at the Federal Communications Commission, Sprint and on Capitol Hill.
Pence heads external communications for the Silver Spring, Md.-based franchisor of more than 6,100 hotels. PR, media, industry and government relations fall under her purview.
Choice Hotels’ brands include Comfort Inn, Clarion and Extended Stay, among others.
Pence reports to Alexandra Jaritz, senior VP, brand strategy and marketing.
Laura Dalton, a 24-year Gannett veteran, is director of corporate communications. She said the company is in the process of interviewing to replace Pence.
