Motorola Mobility, the mobile device giant that is being acquired by Google in a $12.5B deal, has hired the well-connected OB-C Group to keep plugged into Capitol Hill developments in areas such as spectrum and patent reform.
The European Commission this month opened an investigation to determine whether Motorola Mobility is unfairly restricting competitors from access to its valuable patents covering wireless technology.
Apple and Microsoft complained to the EU that MM's is charging excessive licensing fees for patent for 2G and 3G wireless standards.
OB-C is the former O'Brien Calio shop that was founded by Lawrence O'Brien, former chairman of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.
He's working the account with Michael Johnson, chief of staff to ex-House Speaker Bob Michael (R-IL); Robert Marsh, (special assistant for legislative affairs for President George W. Bush); Patricia Nelson, former Democratic staffer on House Ways & Means Committee; Nathan Miller, legislative assistant for ex-Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), and Thomas Keating, former House sergeant at arms and police director whom Roll Call lauded for his “political clout” and “access to leadership.”
