Glenn Engler, former CEO of Digital Influence Group, has joined Edelman in the newly created director of corporate strategy post and chief of staff to Richard Edelman.

Edelman expects Engler’s social media savvy will help drive the No. 1 independent firm’s worldwide strategy of advancing research, digital, creative partnerships and new media relations relationships.

He is to work across the Edelman organization to foster new working relationships and synergies.

As the largest stand-alone social media creative shop, DIG, which is part of high-tech guru Larry Weber’s empire, has done work for IBM, AT&T, GE, and Reebook.

Earlier, Engler headed Digitas’ Boston office, where he was responsible for more than 900 people there and in Detroit and Atlanta.

He was at Mercer Management Consulting (partner), Corporate Decisions (principal) and Epsilon (managing director).
