Jessica Kahanek, former press secretary to the National Labor Relations Board, has been named spokesperson of freight railway trade group the Association of American Railroads.

Kahanek joined the NLRB in early 2015, where she developed communications strategy and provided strategic counsel, as well as managed media relations and lead crisis communications response strategies for the independent U.S. government agency. Prior to that she was deputy digital director at international public affairs firm DDC Advocacy. She previously held communications duties in the legislative branch, serving as a communications director to Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA) and a legislative correspondent to Rep. Gene Green (D-TX).

Kahanek will manage and direct all media relations activities for AAR and will work with staff to advocate for legislative and public policy issues in Washington that effect the railway industry.

Washington, D.C.-based AAR, which represents the privately-owned freight railroads in North America, was founded in 1934.
