Dave Muscato, has been named PR director of American Atheists, the Cranford, N.J.-based organization founded 50 years ago by Madalyn Murray O'Hair.

He had been network coordinator at Secular Student Alliance’s Kansas/Missouri chapter in Columbia.

Muscato succeeds former Baptist pastor-turned atheist Teresa MacBain, who left to take the executive director slot at the Humanist Association of Florida.

A key duty for Muscato’s is to promote AA’s convention in Austin from March 28-31, which will celebrate “50 years of reason.”

Former Democratic Representative Pete Stark, who was the first sitting Congressman to publicly declare himself an atheist, and MacBain are among speakers.

O’Hair led the fight against mandatory prayer in school.
