BECKMAN, BURCKLE, KATZ IN BRANDED VENTURE

Publishing vet Richard Beckman has teamed with investor Ron Burkle and entertainment lawyer Joel Katz to form a branded entertainment venture Three Lions Entertainment.

The founders say TLE, to launch in April, will create original entertainment events and content platforms, as well as marketing opportunities and “activations” based in New York.

Beckman, who will be CEO of the new venture, was CEO of Promethus Global Media, handling the re-launches of The Hollywood Reporter and AdWeek.

“Branded entertainment is one of the fastest-growing segments in media,” he said, adding that TLE will aim to create a roster of events that can exist anywhere in the world.

Beckman’s event credits include revitalization the Billboard Music Awards in 2011 and 2012 after spending 24 years at Conde Nast, including as president of CN Media Group, where he helped create the GQ’s Men of the Year, Vogue/VH1 Fashion Awards and the Fashion Rocks event.

TLE’s first projects include bringing back Fashion Rocks and Movies Rock events in 2014

Burkle is the founder of investment firm The Yucaipa Companies, known for its success in the supermarket sector. He bought film studio Relativity Media and concert promoter Artist Group International over the past year.

Home & StyleKatz is a partner at Greenberg Traurig and will be a minority partner in TLE with a board seat.

Former Conde Nast VP of media relations Susan Portnoy is promoting TLE.
