Senior journalists from China’s most influential technology publications were surveyed by Racepoint Global to uncover trends for technology marketers.

The InMedia Report shows that 63 percent of the 16 journalists in the study believe Chinese companies alone cannot satisfy the growing demand for semiconductor products.

The increased need for servers and data centers is fueling the global semiconductor and microchip market, driven by the rise of cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence.

The journalists agreed that foreign firms should focus on stronger partnerships with Chinese companies and government bodies to gain access to China’s semiconductor ecosystem.

While there is a shrinking demand for semiconductors in sectors such as personal computers, emerging technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) will make up for this.

The applications expected to see the fastest pace of innovation and adoption of IoT technologies in China are: smart home – 47 percent; auto and smart transporttion – 35.5 percent; and medical and health – 17.7 percent.

Tencent, Huawei, and Alibaba were voted the top brands to watch and which will be most influential in shaping the technology landscape in China in 2017.

Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma is overwhelmingly seen as the top technology entrepreneur in the country.
