Congratulations to Secret Service Director Julia Pierson's decision today to resign following revelations that the First Family was provided with Keystone Cops-like protection at the White House. What took her so long?

PiersonThe President didn't help matters by expressing his full confidence in the ability of the Secret Service.

C'mon.

A 49-year-old fence climber walks into the front door of the White House on Sept. 19, overcomes a guard and winds up in the East Room before between tackled by the Secret Service's Dream Team.

Had Omar Gonzalez make a left and walked up a flight of stairs he would have entered the First Family's living quarters. (Obama, Malia and Sasha had just left the residence). The Wall Street Journal today helpfully pointed out the next intruder to the White House could be wearing a suicide vest.

Pierson told Congress Sept. 30: "It's clear that our security plan was not properly executed." Clearly, she's a master of the obvious.

There are fresh revelations about more Secret Service incompetence. An armed felon rode an elevator with Obama during his Sept. 16 visit to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Of course, the ride begs the question what was the guy doing in the CDC to begin with.

Pierson's decision to quit is the right one, though a little too late. Her resignation should be an example to others who fail to carry out the fundamental priority of their job. Call it, a return to responsibility.

Obama has to be tougher with members of his Administration. By not firing Pierson, Obama fell far short in the leadership department.

He appears weak, which is sad following his good performances vis-à-vis Putin and ISIS.

Crazed copycats are bound to follow the footsteps of Gonzalez, making Secret Service reform a top priority.

There are many Obama-haters out, who have been fed a steady diet of propaganda for the last six years. They put the First Family and our nation's prestige at risk.
