There is a silver lining for Democrats following last night's ballot box disaster: at least none of their candidates got physically hurt. Psychologically scarred, perhaps.

Today Democrats and their media and organizational echo chamber are desperately attempting to put a positive spin on the whipping. They complain the elections last night were largely in conservative states, and point to a more favorable Senate map for the election in 2016, which has a Presidential tally to boot to enhance turnout.

In the words of Vice President Joe Biden: "That's a bunch of malarkey."

The Democrats last night lost in two states that voted twice for President Obama: Colorado and Iowa. Mark Warner, Virginia's capable Democrat and potential VP or Presidential candidate, barely survived a race against Washington lobbyist Ed Gillespie. Aren't Republicans running on an anti-DC platform? Warner was supposed to win by eight to 10 points. A less than 0.5 percent margin is more like it for Landslide Mark. And what about Carpetbagger Scott Brown who gave respected politico Jeanne Shaheen a run for her money in New Hampshire. Where's Scott going to show up next? Does he eye Kirsten Gillibrand's seat in New York?

Something is terribly wrong with the Democrats. The woes start at the top with their headless horseman "leader" Obama. The president has an impressive list of accomplishments capped by ObamaCare. Everything headed south after the healthcare reform passed and Obama's own re-election. He's been AWOL on the political front, delegating to others and embarrassing the nation with idle threats (Syria) and passing the buck on the environment (Keystone Pipeline).

Democrats have to decide priorities. Do they want to be a progressive party or a lite version of Republicans?

They were battered last night. It's time chin up. Slaughters have happened before. The best advice I ever heard came after the stock market crash of 1987.

Newspapers/TV were in panic mode, predicting worldwide depression and just riots in the streets. The New York Times finally got around talking to Ace Greenberg, CEO of Bear Stearns. Here is all Ace said: “Stocks go up. Stocks go down.”

The Democrats need to take a breather and figure out what they stand for and then stick to it. They’ve been dancing around on too many issues. Obama, not exactly a tower of strength, needs to get out of the country ASAP. He actually is. He's going to Asia next week. That may be far enough.

The Democrats have the wrong community organizer in charge. They need a fiery version of Mother Jones, who advised: “Don't mourn, organize."
