Michael Sarid has taken the chief development officer post at the Forward Assn., parent of the Jewish news organization.

He's a former western region director at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, where he raised more than $10M for remembrance and education programs of that genocide.

Sarid also spearheaded fund-raising at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco and that city's Jewish Family and Children's Service organization.

Samuel Norich, CEO/publisher of the Forward, said Sarid possesses the savvy to tell its story as a non-profit/user-supported media organization to the Jewish community.

The 117-year organization publishes English and Yiddish editions of the Forward in print and online.

Sarid replaces Sharon Temkin Portnoy, who retired last year.
