NBC News is probing into the reporting of anchor Brian Williams for his exaggerated reports about helicopter rides in Iraq.

oreillyFox News should do with same with its public face Bill O'Reilly, who may have told some tall tales about his reporting from the Falkland Wars front in the war between Argentina and the UK over desolate rocks off the South American shore that still flies the Union Jack.

Jon Solz, co-founder of Votevets.org, which claims more than 400,000 supporters, wants Fox to follow NBC's lead and investigate O'Reilly's days of "war correspondent" during his time at CBS.

Bill-O apparently was bunkered down in Buenos Aires, a thousand miles from the front. Seven CBS staffers told CNN that O'Reilly was far from the combat zone.

Iraq war veteran Solz wrote in the Huffingon Post today: "Journalistically, of course it is important for FOX and NBC to take people off the air who aren't being truthful. But, more importantly, they need to make clear that if anyone -- no matter rank or status -- steals the valor of the real heroes of journalism, they will no longer have a home at their news organizations."

The O'Reilly situation is a potential timebomb for Fox News, which is the top news outlet for conservatives and military veterans. That viewership will get mighty edgy if more witnesses to O'Reilly's exploits come forward.

That's why it's vital for 21st Century Fox chief Rupert Murdoch and Fox News czar Roger Ailes to launch a probe into O'Reilly's reporting.

O'Reilly may be guilty of just a one-time embellishment, but Fox should vow to get to the bottom of the situation before things blow up.

Removing Bill from the line-up until completion of the probe is the right thing for Fox to do.
