The National Iranian American Council today launched NIAC Action lobbying arm to maximum that community's influence in Washington and advance ties between the US and Iran.

niacIt says NAICA's mission is to "advance peace and human rights" in the Middle East region, promote civil rights and back political candidates who are sympathetic to its cause.

NIACA claims the key to preventing war and advancing peace with Iran is "sealing a nuclear deal."

It wants to strengthen diplomacy, lift harmful sanctions and and protect civil rights at home.

NIAC executive Jamal Abdi was aide to former Washington Congressman Bruce Baird, a supporter of Gaza and opponent of Israel prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He said the one-million plus Iranian-American community is financially well-off, but lacking in DC political clout.

Abdi wants to shift the political landscape in Washington from groups such as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

"While we may not be ale to match the largess of Sheldon Adelson and Paul Singer [pro-Israel donors], our side is for the first time bringing serious resources to the playing on the field," he told Politico.

NAICA considers J Street, a left-leaning Jewish-American lobbying group, its role model.
