Kyle Campbell, reporter for the Southampton Press and its website, 27east.com, will join the New York Daily News Aug. 28 as a digital content producer for its auto section, based in Jersey City.

kyle campbellCampbell, a 2013 graduate of Michigan State’s Journalism School, has been with the SH Press two years after interning at MLive Media Group in Michigan and Hearst Newspapers in Washington, D.C.

He has covered news of Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays and town and village police as well as national politics at SH Press.

His March 20, 2015 story on the eruv Orthodox Jewish boundary claimed for WHB said that an examination of 46 utility poles found no evidence of the lechis that are required for such a boundary.

SH Press has editorialized in favor of WHB accepting an eruv claimed for WHB, saying it would be “invisible.” A June 30 court decision had come to that conclusion. Jewish People for the Betterment of WHB called the court decision “outrageous” since eruvim are commonly depicted on Synagogue and Google websites.

Campbell did an extensive story Aug. 19 on the move to unionize the library at WHB, a vote on which will be counted tonight at 6:30 p.m. The vote count is open to the public.
