Weedmaps

Weedmaps, a California-based technology company that connects consumers with brands and retailers in the legal cannabis economy, is looking for a PR firm to bolster awareness and increase its presence in the business, tech, lifestyle and cannabis media.

The company’s consumer-facing platform provides information about products including online ordering, local retailers, education on cannabis and its legal status.

Weedmaps is positioning as the “true operating system of the cannabis economy as the once nascent industry continues to evolve and diversify," according to its RFP.

Once dubbed the “Yelp of weed,” Weedmaps has grown into an enterprise with more than 8M monthly active users, making it “the unequivocal leader in the space and the gateway to the most engaged cannabis consumers, the optimal solution for brands and retailers to connect with consumers at the moment of purchase intent,” says the document.

The PR partner will reinforce Weedmaps’ role as the cannabis industry’s “thought leader, educational resource and de facto operating system.”

The firm must proactively pitch angles, story ideas, and possess a proven ability to generate PR ideas that “create news.”

A geographic presence in California is a must, and representation in New York is preferred, but not required.

Headquartered in Irvine, Weedmaps has more than 400 employees in Denver, Tucson, New York, Toronto and Barcelona.

Travis Rexroad, Weedmaps’ communications director, is fielding questions about the RFP. His email address is [email protected].

Interested firms must declare their intent to respond to the RFP by July 24. Weedmaps expects to select a firm on Sept. 8 for the campaign slated to start Sept. 21.
