Markham

Markham, a city of 350K people, located 20 miles northeast of Toronto, is looking for a firm to help it develop a five-year economic development and cultural strategy plan.

The firm will engage with local community groups to ensure that the five-year plan reflects the values of Markham.

That effort will include traditional media outreach, social media engagement, pop-up events, workshops and presentations to business/industry/arts and cultural organizations.

Markham wants a firm to “deliver innovative techniques and approaches both online and in-person that will successfully achieve effective, equitable and inclusive engagement in multiple languages (specifically Mandarin and Cantonese),” according to the RFP.

Chinese account for 60 percent of Markham’s “visible minority population.”

Visible minorities, which include Blacks, Arabs, Koreans, South Asians, Filipinos and Latin Americans, make up 72 percent of the city’s overall population.

Proposals are due May 30 at Markham’s bidding portal.
