Ken Mehlman, the former presidential aide who heads public affairs for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., was elected chairman of the Private Equity Growth Capital Council, the Washington trade group for PE firms.
One of Mehlman's primary duties will be to expand the industry's outreach efforts touting the "value of a vibrant and dynamic private equity industry," the group said.
Mehlman ran President George W. Bush's re-election campaign and led the Republican National Committee before taking the then-new global PA post at KKR in 2008. He takes the top board seat at the PEGCC from Mark Tresnowski, general counsel at Madison Dearborn Partners.
New York-based Mehlman heads external affairs for KKR as a managing director.
