GLOBALHealthPR, the international network of independent health and science agencies, has opened a new regional office in Singapore.

James Yi has been picked to lead the Singapore outpost and will hold the title of executive director, Asia-Pacific. Yi was previously market leader for Burson-Marsteller in South Korea and a managing director at Ogilvy PR in Vietnam. He also formerly lead the healthcare team at Fleishman-Hillard in Singapore.

GHPR president Jonathan Wilson told O’Dwyer’s that the health network’s expansion in Asia is a response to growth in the region and increased client demand for a network agency model that trades solely in healthcare. The network recently signed on a new regional agency partner, Madison Communications, which is based in Hong Kong.

“Currently the APAC region is experiencing unprecedented growth in the healthcare industry due its large population base, modernization of infrastructure, investment in innovation, and a rapidly aging population in many markets that creates a critical need for improved awareness, diagnosis and treatment of chronic illnesses,” Wilson told O’Dwyer’s. “The new GLOBALHealthPR APAC headquarters in Singapore will ensure a streamlined approach to service clients with needs in multiple markets in the region, ultimately ensuring true local market expertise to support our clients’ fuller strategic vision.”

GLOBALHealthPR, which was started in 2001 by Spectrum founder John J. Seng, now holds 17 partner agencies in more than 40 countries. It is headquartered in New York and maintains another regional office in London.

Wilson, who now holds the title of Spectrum president and CEO, was named GLOBALHealthPR president last year.
