Pete MorisPete Moris, who spent 17 years in the PR department of the Kansas City Chiefs National Football League team, will become PR chief for Virginia Tech's athletic program on May 4.

He began as intern at the KC team and moved on to handle strategic communications, marketing, community outreach, brand development and social media.

Moris spearheaded PR for the $375M rebranding of Arrowhead Stadium home field of the Chiefs.

Most recently, he was assistant athletic director for communications at the University of Oklahoma in charge of 20 staffers and running Moris Media Consulting, which handled clients such as Nike and STATS LLC.

At VT, Moris will take over for Dave Smith, who is retiring June 1 after a 40-year run. He'll focus on football communications, media relations and online content.
