Walmart has hired Greg Hitt, US crisis practice chief at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, for the VP-corporate communications slot effective June 1.

He assumes the duties of Dave Tovar, who stepped down last year, following the controversy regarding his lack of a college diploma.

Hitt will report to Dan Bartlett, executive VP-corporate affairs and H+K alum. Barlett, who was White House advisor to George W. Bush, also served as H+K US president and CEO of Pubic Strategies Inc.

Hitt, who did a stint at PSI, was a reporter for Dow Jones News Service and Wall Street Journal.
