Washington, D.C.-based lobbying and life insurance industry trade group American Council of Life Insurers has appointed Katherine Trinidad senior vice president of communications and public affairs.

Trinidad joins ACLI from defense and security giant Lockheed Martin, which she joined in 2011 and most recently served as director of worldwide media relations. Prior to that she was news chief at NASA and led outreach for that agency’s Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs. Trinidad was a journalist prior to entering the communications field, and served as a reporter at Reuters and also held producer roles at CNN and WJZ-TV (Baltimore).

ACLI, which advocates public policy in support of the insurance industry, represents about 300 member companies in the U.S. and abroad.
