APCO Worldwide hires Licy Do Canto to serve as managing director of its Washington, D.C. office. Do Canto comes to APCO from BCW, where he served as executive vice president and managing director in the agency’s public affairs and crisis practice. Before that, he was founder and president of The Do Canto Group, a bipartisan public affairs and communications firm. Do Canto succeeds Evan Kraus, who will continue to serve as APCO’s global president and managing director of operations, as well as lead for the Mid-Atlantic region. “Licy is a strategic leader with a proven track record—at the national, state and local levels—of developing and executing integrated campaigns, utilizing his advocacy and advisory expertise to support clients’ organizational priorities and deliver quality services and outcomes,” said APCO North America president Kelly Williamson.

The Winston Agency adds Lori Loker to its staff as senior director of client services and Benton Arnett as senior manager, policy and public affairs. Loker most recently served as recruitment & relationship manager at the Washington Speakers Bureau. She was previously executive director in the Washington D.C. office of Golin. In her new post, she is responsible for cross-account team management and firm operations and will help grow the agency’s digital and consumer marketing capabilities. Arnett comes to the Winston Agency from ExxonMobil, where he was a public policy advisor. He has also been a presidential management fellow, serving at the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. “Lori and Benton bring depth of knowledge, experience, and important competencies to our firm at a time when we are embarking on a critical chapter in our growth. We are thrilled to have them join the team,” said Winston Agency managing director Bess Winston.

The University of Alabama’s Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations names Bridget Coffing as chair of its board and Joanne Bischmann as vice-chair. Coffing, a member of the center’s board since 2015, most recently served as senior vice president, worldwide corporate relations for McDonald’s Corporation. She has also worked at GolinHarris, Stephan and Brady Communications and Regal Ware, Inc. Bischmann, who joined the board in 2016, was chief communication officer at Harley-Davidson before retiring in 2019. The board has also added new members T. Kenn Gaither, professor and associate dean at Elon University’s School of Communications, and Toyota Motors North America group vice president and chief communication officer Scott Vazin.
