Robert Tappan has joined the International BioMetrics + Identity Assoc., the trade group for the identity technology industry.

He will focus on branding, advocacy, thought leadership, media relations and serve as the “voice” of the industry.

In his more than 30-year career in corporate and government communications, Tappan was director of external relations at Koch Industries, president of Washington operations for Burson-Marsteller, principal deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the State Dept. and director of strategic communications for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad.

The IBIA says its major mission is “to educate citizens, legislators and policymakers about the benefits of biometrics and the responsible use of technologies for human identity.”

Its members include IRIS ID, Clear, eyeLock, Bio-Key, NEC, Digit ID, Qualcomm, typingDNA, Vision-Box, Keyless, Cognitec, ID Technology Partners, Paravision and Thales.
